Banse Gufa Bamboo Grove Draws Growing Crowds in Morang

MORANG KANEPOKHARI — Banse Gufa, a bamboo-lined passage inside Jhulkesuntali Community Forest in Kanepokhari Rural Municipality-6, Morang, is drawing growing numbers of domestic visitors after gaining attention on social media. The community forest committee says the site, opened about two months ago, now receives up to 500 visitors a day and more than twice that number on holidays.

The attraction was created by preserving and arranging mature bamboo rather than constructing a conventional cave. Committee chairman Bhim Phago said the bamboo had been planted years ago and was later organized into a tunnel-like walking route after forest users saw tourism potential in the grove.

Visitors interviewed by Nepal News, including Babita Guragain, Muna Giri and Jenisha Dangol, said social-media videos encouraged their visits. The bamboo-covered setting has become particularly popular for photographs, videos and short outings by families and young visitors.

Phago said the committee is preparing to develop a children’s park and plans to coordinate with local and provincial authorities while preserving the area’s natural character. The committee has said it does not want tourism development to replace the forest setting with extensive concrete construction.
Banse Gufa is also relatively close to the East-West Highway. The Nepal News report gives access routes from Kanepokhari Bazaar through Bihibhare Bazaar and from the Pathari side, helping make the site accessible for short domestic trips.
